January 2015 HAD Meeting: Seattle
As it does most years, the Historical Astronomy Division will meet jointly with the American Astronomical Society in January 2015.
The full schedule, with abstracts
Highlights of the meeting will include:
Sunday afternoon, 4 January (1:30–6:00 pm)
- Special session on "The Impact of the Great War on Astronomy and Other Sciences," organized by Virginia Trimble
- Special session on "Ideas of Evolution Inside and Outside of Astronomy during the Long 19th Century," organized by Woody Sullivan
Monday, 5 January
- All day poster session of contributed papers on historical astronomy
- Morning special session on "Preserving the Material Legacy of the American Observatory Movement," organized by David DeVorkin
- Annual HAD Business meeting, including installation of new officers
- Afternoon session including three contributed oral papers and presentation of the third Donald E. Osterbrock Book Prize for Historical Astronomy. The recipient, Barbara J. Becker, will present a lecture related to her prizewinning book, Unravelling Starlight: William and Margaret Huggins and the Rise of the New Astronomy.
- Eighth annual HAD Minibanquet
Tuesday, 6 January
- Morning (10:00–11:30 am) oral session of contributed papers on historical astronomy

- While it is now too late to submit an abstract for an oral paper, you can submit a poster paper as a late submission until 1 December 2014.
- Would you like to peruse abstracts submitted to previous HAD meetings? All are available.
- Don't forget to register. HAD members who do not wish to attend non-HAD sessions can register at a special two-day rate for Monday and Tuesday (registration is not necessary to attend Sunday sessions.) Fees will increase again after 13 November.
